Project Greenlight 2 winners selected; some claim contest was “rigged.”
A grad student at Ohio State has won the Project Greenlight 2 screenwriting contest, while two 30-year-old, Maine-based directors have won the new directing contest. Efram Potelle and Kyle Rankin will direct Erica Beeney’s Cleveland suburb-set “The Battle of Shaker Heights” starting in March for an August release. Some contestants aren’t happy with the winners, however, “claiming this year’s contest was rigged,” according to Page Six. The rules stated only amateurs could enter and, according to one contestant, Beeney “had professional paid experience writing for a national TV series and was, in fact, an employee of ‘Project Greenlight’ parent company Disney and the two directors [Kyle Rankin and Efram Potelle] had a paid national distribution deal with the Sci-Fi Channel.” Miramax says “[a]ll three of the winners have met the requirements.”
