Pop Idol 2 debuts Saturday.
Although the US version has already burned through two seasons, the second Pop Idol series begins tomorrow—well over a year after the first series concluded. The show starts at 7.15 p.m. Saturday on ITV; beforehand, a one-hour special will update viewers about previous contestants—and air opposite the BBC’s Fame Academy, which began July 26. Simon Cowell will again judge; he says that “the desire this year is stronger,” and says “the American girls tend to be better than the English girls” but there are “English girls who are very, very good. Certainly much, much better than we saw in the first series.” Last year’s winner, Will Young, attempted to enter again but was caught because he used his real address.
