Pop Idol creator and judge Nigel Lythgoe says that “a panic over the voting” led the producers to change the voting system. An e.mail campaign to vote stuttering contestant Gareth Gates out led the producers to have the public vote to keep their favorite contestants instead of having them vote out their least favorite.
