The man who put together the boy band Take That says that Pop Idol—the sequel to the UK’s Popstars—is “destroying” the hopes of the contestants who try out. Nigel Martin Smith also tells BBC News, “I’m sure that whoever wins Pop Idol will be huge, but I fear for the scores of kids who have been humiliated on the show for the sake of the ratings.”
