Pop Idol may show the “limit to how much nastiness we can take.”
Pop Idol—the sequel to the UK’s Popstars—hasn’t caught on as much as the original. The Guardian’s Decca Aitkenhead looks at the show and its contestants’ quest for fame, and finds “10,000 youngsters subjecting themselves to a vicious ordeal of rejection they cannot accept, in pursuit of a dream that is notoriously unfulfilling.”
