CBS is “shocked and saddened” by Cheryl’s suicide

CBS has issued a comment about the death of Pirate Master contestant Cheryl Kosewicz, which was first reported yesterday. This afternoon, reality blurred received the following statement from the network:

“Everyone at CBS who knew her is shocked and saddened by the news of Cheryl Kosewicz’s untimely and unexpected passing. We will remember Cheryl for her extraordinary energy and compassion and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.”

Meanwhile, at least one tabloid newspaper is directly linking her death to the cancellation of the series, although there’s no concrete evidence of that. Australia’s Daily Telegraph reported today that Cheryl “posted a note a MySpace website blaming the series for her death.” She did no such thing, at least not directly; the paper cites her June 28 note that she’s “floating around lost” which says “this frik’n show doesn’t help.”
