Next week: SYTYCD changes up its format after weekend shows take a break for the 4th

If Memorial Day marks the start of summer and Labor Day is the end of summer, then July 4 is pretty much mid-summer. And it’s July already. Holy crap.

Hope you have a good (long?) holiday weekend, even if networks have decided to deprive us of new episodes of our favorite TV shows this weekend. Seriously, do they think we’re going to all go outside or spend time with our families and friends or something?

The Past

The Forward

  • Sunday, July 4 WEtv’s reality version of The Golden Girls, sort of, Sunset Daze, returns from its hiatus in an awkward new time slot: late Saturday night/early Sunday mornings at 12 a.m., when it airs two back-to-back half-hour episodes. Sunday evening, about the only new episode of a reality show airing is Bridezillas’ 100th episode [WEtv, 9 p.m.] of brides acting insane over their weddings and for the camera crews that are following them.
  • Monday, July 5
The Bachelorette [ABC, 8 p.m.] takes a break from Ali’s search for the maybe violent reunion between Jake and Vienna. At the same time, Last Comic Standing 7 starts its semi-final round [NBC, 9 p.m.] with a two-hour episode and, yes, those two judges with grating laughs. Also, the town that’s home to the world’s largest community of psychic mediums is profiled in the documentary No One Dies in Lily Dale [HBO, 9 p.m.].
  • Tuesday, July 6
America’s Got Talent finally makes it to Las Vegas for its semi-final round [NBC, 9 p.m.], as the judges narrow down all the crappy acts they sent to Las Vegas and try to find 48 who will make it to the live shows.
  • Wednesday, July 7
So You Think You Can Dance [Fox, 8 p.m.] is just a few weeks into its finals, but is changing up the format: the top eight finalists will now start dancing with each other for one of two routines that they perform. The other will be with an all-star, as usual. Meanwhile, the award-winning UK series The Choir comes to the US [BBC America, 10 p.m.], as it follows choirmaster Gareth Malone as he tries to form a choir at a high school that’s never had one. Also tonight, the Top Chef DC cast makes baby food for Padma’s baby [Bravo, 9 p.m.]. For real.
  • Thursday, July 8
Big Brother 12 debuts [CBS, 8 p.m.], and while we have to wait a week until the saboteur is revealed, we’ll meet the cast and decide who to love and who to hate.
