Next week: The Marriage Ref gets previewed, debuts, while Bachelor, Celebrity Rehab end
As February leaves and March begins, a heavily-promoted show will debut and a controversy-heavy show will conclude.
- Last week began with an epic confrontation on The Bachelor that got even more interesting when I found evidence that the women lied about Rozlyn and her affair. Meanwhile, we saw some bizarre censorship and weak singing, and learned how much cash Idols make and how much Simon’s trailer costs. A sad story got even sadder, while a sad story got a happier ending.
- Sunday, Feb. 28 Following the closing ceremonies of the Olympics—which if they’re anything like the opening ceremonies, may put everyone to sleep—NBC will debut a “sneak preview” of its new reality series The Marriage Ref [NBC, 10:30 p.m.] On the show, which is executive produced and created by Jerry Seinfeld, a panel of celebrities (sometimes with questionable qualifications for judging relationships) offer comments about a problem a couple has in their marriage, and then comedian Tom Papa will referee and decide which partner wins. This half-hour preview features Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, and Kelly Ripa, and the previews make it look pretty good.
- Monday, March 1
The Bachelor concludes [ABC, 8 p.m.] with a two-hour finale and a one-hour reunion. During that time, Dancing with the Stars new cast will be unveiled. Who will Jake pick? Vienna, Tenley, or Samantha Harris? Also tonight, the parents featured on Little Parents, First Baby last fall get a series, Our Little Life [TLC, 8 p.m.], and a Real Housewives special [Bravo, 10 p.m.] will look back at our “favorite moments” from the franchise.
- Tuesday, March 2
Madman of the Sea, a show repackaged for the US, debuts tonight [Animal Planet, 10 p.m.] and follows extreme fisherman Matt Watson, who does crazy shit like “jumping from a hovering helicopter into the ocean to wrestle a giant marlin,” according to Animal Planet. Also tonight, the women will prove whether or not their first-week suckiness was a fluke or if they just all suck on American Idol 9 [Fox, 8 p.m.].
- Wednesday, March 3
The 100th episode of Ghost Hunters [SyFy, 9 p.m.], one of the 3,128 reality shows about paranormal investigations, takes the team to Alcatraz for a two-hour sixth-season premiere, while The Locator [WEtv, 10 p.m.] has its fourth-season premiere. Those two shows should team up and hunt for and locate talent in the American Idol [Fox, 8 p.m.] studio. Also, High School Reunion concludes [TV Land, 10 p.m.] its sixth season with a prom.
- Thursday, March 4
Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew ends its third season [VH1, 10 p.m.], and The Marriage Ref gets its true premiere in its normal timeslot [NBC, 10 p.m]. Tina Fey, Eva Longoria-Parker, and Jerry Seinfeld are the celebrity panelists for the hour-long episode.
