Next week: 1,300-pound stingray, old people, and the beginning of the end for The Hills
Miss something last week in reality TV news? Or wondering what’s coming up next week? You’re in the right place.
The Past
- In between teary exit from Dancing with the Stars, there were a number of revelations last week, with varying degrees of believability: VH1 admitted its stupidity, Donald Trump explained his decision-making, and David Archuleta said he has gay friends as a defense against his awkward comments about a gay club appearance.
Also, Ryan Seacrest said Crystal almost quit, E! said Seacrest is “Superman,” a semi-finalist said Crystal was “betrayed,” and Crystal said she never considered quitting.
The Forward
- Friday, April 23 Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution ends its first season [ABC, 9 p.m.], concluding a series that has an impressive goal but is a too heavy-handed in its production to be really engaging. If you like logs and are crushed about the season finale of American Loggers [Discovery, 10 p.m.], never fear, as Swamp Loggers returns from its second season hiatus [Discovery, 9 p.m.].
- Sunday, April 25
Animal Planet’s most-popular show ever, River Monsters, returns for a second season [Animal Planet, 9 p.m.] with two back-to-back episodes. The series follows Jeremy Wade as he explores mysteries about scary freshwater fish, and the first episode is about the 1,300-pound freshwater stingray. Also tonight, The Amazing Race is back [CBS, 8 p.m.] after being pre-empted last week. - Monday, April 26
Two food-focused series return tonight: Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern goes to Thailand [Travel Channel, 10 p.m.], while Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives [Food Network, 10 p.m.] lets Guy Fieri eat more on camera. Appetizing. - Tuesday, April 27
The Hills returns [MTV, 10 p.m.] for its sixth and final season, and it’s followed by the second-season debut of The City [MTV, 10:30 p.m.], which will carry the fake-reality flag after its sibling series retires. Also tonight, one of the most awesomely weird series you’ll ever seen, Food Party [IFC, 10 p.m.] returns. It’s like Pee-Wee’s Playhouse but with food, kind of. It’s followed by the second-season debut of Dinner with the Band [IFC, 10:30 p.m.], a show that combines band interviews (Rufus Wainwright tonight) with a cooking show. - Wednesday, April 28
Senior citizens and retirees living in Sun City, Arizona, become reality TV stars with the debut of Sunset Daze [WeTV, 10 p.m.], which airs two back-to-back half-hour episodes. - Thursday, April 29
Survivor Heroes vs. Villains [CBS, 8 p.m.] has just four episodes left, including the usual Sunday finale, so expect the drama to ramp up, if that’s even possible. Also tonight, Bullrun [Speed, 10 p.m.], Sober House 2 [VH1, 10 p.m.], and LA Ink [TLC, 10 p.m.] end their seasons.
