Men will compete to become Ken, Barbie’s “ultimate boyfriend for every occasion”

An online reality series will be a competition between men who think they are the living embodiment of Ken, Barbie’s genital-less plastic boyfriend. Perhaps because she has a history with plastic men, The City’s Whitney Port will host the series.

Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend will air on Hulu starting Jan. 18. On it, “eight men between the ages of 21 and 30 will compete in a series of elimination challenges to prove that they possess Ken’s qualities in order to be ‘the ultimate boyfriend for every occasion,’ including being able to surf, design, have a sense of fashion and show a romantic side,” Variety reports.

Mattel VP Stephanie Cota told the paper that Ken is “getting a makeover to make sure he’s still as culturally and visually relevant as Barbie is.”

Here’s Ken in Toy Story 3, for which he seems to have received a pretty significant makeover already, although one he’s not yet quite become aware of:
