ArchivesMTV debuts a new celebrity reality series tonight that follows hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia. The group, which won an Oscar last year for “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp,” stars in Adventures in HollyHood, which debuts at 10 p.m. ET.
The show “features Juicy J, DJ Paul, and their entourage of friends leaving the comforts of their Memphis home behind and hitting the road to conquer Tinseltown and trying to become major Hollywood players,” MTV says.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the show’s “emphasis is on comedy, as the group tries to put ‘the hood’ into Hollywood, and the show at times seems like an amped-up version of HBO’s ‘Entourage.’”
And MTV VP Rod Aissa tells the paper, “Their perspective is key, and they are very endearing and charming. They live such a different lifestyle that is so at odds with life out here in Los Angeles. They have this urban-Memphis Southern style, and they’re natural comedians.”
