ArchivesEndemol’s smash hit reality TV franchise known worldwide as Star Academy comes to the US tonight when ABC debuts The One: Making a Music Star. In Spain, the second country to air the show, the series was insanely popular, and it’s aired in dozens of countries worldwide.
Although it’s yet another music competition series, it takes American Idol one step further by focusing heavily on the drama that occurs when those competing live in a house and have their lives taped. ABC promises “a real-life soap opera as they live and learn together.” There will be no lengthy audition process, as the 11 contestants who will compete for viewer votes have already been selected.
The two-hour premiere airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET and repeats tomorrow at 8, followed by a live results show at 10. Normally, it’ll air at 9 on Tuesdays and 8 on Wednesdays. The show will be hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos, a Canadian TV show host whose vowels Ryan Seacrest surely envies.
