ArchivesFOX’s Playing it Straight debuts tonight.
First FOX poached the host of Bravo’s Boy Meets Boy for The Littlest Groom, and now the network rips off the format for Playing it Straight. A female college student will try to figure out who among 14 men is straight and who is gay. (Can you tell?) The rules: If Jackie picks a straight guy, they split $1 million; if she picks a gay guy, he gets all the cash. The show’s female producer tells the Houston Voice that, “Personally, I like ‘Boy Meets Boy,’ but I didn’t like the fact they didn’t tell them [there were straight men on the show]. That’s not fair.” Thus, the paper reports, “all contestants were told there would be a twist before being cast on the show—and all were told what the twist was before filming started. Jackie was told after her initial meeting with the men.” Ciara Byrne says that being on the show “was harder for the straight guys because a lot of them are metrosexuals, and they’re trying to prove they’re straight.”
