All American Girl debuts tonight.
The producers of American Idol turn their attention to young women tonight at 9 p.m. ET as ABC debuts All American Girl, a sort of reality TV Miss America pageant. Instead of singers there are women; instead of judges there are coaches; instead of product placement there is, well, even more product placement. The 13-week series will include audience votes that result in the elimination of finalists; the winner will be awarded a management contract. The show, by the way, shares its name with a cancelled ABC sitcom that starred Margaret Cho, who jokes, “They’re bringing back my show?”
