Real Roseanne Show debuts tonight.
The Real Roseanne Show, a 13-episode series following Roseanne Barr as she gets ready to produce a new show for ABC Family, debuts tonight at 9 p.m. ET on synergy-happy ABC. Produced by American High creator R.J. Cutler, the cast includes Roseanne’s “son, Jake, and son-in-law, Jeff, who become her producers; her first ex-husband, Bill, and his current wife, Becky, who work as Roseanne’s personal assistants; Drew, the one writer whom she’s never fired; and her best friend/confidante/makeup artist Shannon.” USA TODAY traces Roseanne’s evolution from confrontation sit-com star who screeched the national anthem at a baseball game to a person who says she’s always “trying to say the good thing” now. Newsday says the show is “real fascinating,” and The Baltimore Sun says it “is still worthy of consideration by viewers interested in show business, television, celebrity and the idea of family,” but The Washington Post’s Tom Shales doesn’t like it or Roseanne, writing that “beneath all the chiseled flesh lurks the same old overweening, self-obsessed shrew.”
