reality TV show ratings down; some shows won’t return for second seasons.
Big Brother 2’s ratings may have been outstanding, but as Variety reports, other new shows aren’t doing so well. The Mole 2’s debut finished in fourth place in its time slot on Friday and The Amazing Race has lost viewers since its debut. Also, Lost’s Wednesday finale for its first story arc may be the show’s final episode; the network will probably shelve the next three episodes. Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reports in their Oct. 5 issue that FOX’s Murder in Small Town X and Boot Camp both won’t return for second seasons, although Big Brother 3 is being considered, and NBC’s Fear Factor will definitely be back. What does it mean? Executives interviewed by Variety disagree; one possiblity is that the schedule is just oversaturated, spreading audiences too thin.
