producer: Manhunt was rigged.
Turning his investigative eye away from that other show and toward UPN’s Manhunt, Peter Lance reports that after Manhunt was filmed, UPN and Paramount “felt that there wasn’t enough conflict among the contestants” and so they asked the producer to “fake entire segments of the game, create phony story lines and mis-state the game rules.” Lance’s source? Bob Jaffe, one of the show’s producers, who refused and was replaced by a producer who later reshot parts of the series in LA (which were edited into the real footage). On his web site, Lance publishes damning evidence, including script pages and call sheets for the re-shoot. Among other charges, Jaffe alleges that both the president of Paramount Network Television and the chairman of Paramount TV intervened during the first taping, asking him to effectively manipulate the winner, which he refused.
