Emmy-nominated On the Lot cancelled in South Africa
FOX’s unkillable On the Lot has finally been cancelled—but in South Africa, not in the United States. We’re apparently going to get to keep watching until the August 14 and 15 finale, when Steven Spielberg shows up, perhaps with a bag over his head to avoid embarassment.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation said “unforeseen circumstances” forced the cancellation, perhaps that the show sucks much worse than anyone ever thought it could? Variety reports that “an SABC2 spokesman would say only that it ‘had encountered problems with the production.’”
There, the show had “a respectable viewership of about 1.3 million-1.5 million,” Variety says; in the U.S., constantly decreasing ratings finally stabilized over the past month with about 2.3 million viewers every week.
One thing I missed last month were the Emmy nominations, and incredibly, On the Lot was nominated for an Emmy. As incredible as that is, the nomination is a technical one, for the show’s theme song.
