FOX’s The Next Great Champ will debut on Sept. 7 after a judge ruled that preventing the show from airing would be “prior restraint. And this is not a situation where I feel there is a significant government interest in protecting that.” That allows FOX to air the show as planned, although the judge “said it was her impression that there were other legal remedies for DreamWorks and Burnett to pursue their grievances.” DreamWorks said they will “discuss the range of options” to see if they’ll pursue further action. As it said in a statement, FOX is now “seeking to have the entire action dismissed, and will ask the court to order the ‘Contender’ partners to pay all of Fox’s legal costs in connection with this meritless lawsuit.” The Next Great Champ debuts Sept. 7.
