Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica

Newlyweds was the top show Wed., giving ‘Til Death a strong start.

Newlyweds was the top show Wed., giving ‘Til Death a strong start.
The return of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica was watched by 4.7 million viewers, and brought MTV more viewers ages 12 to 34 than any other network, broadcast or cable. Although ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave, which followed Nick and Jessica, “dropped roughly one-quarter of Newlyweds’ total audience,” it was still “MTV’s highest-rated series premiere among viewers 12-34” with 3.3 million viewers, according to the Hollywood Reporter. As a result of MTV’s draw, along with the return of Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show and USA Network’s Monk, FX’s Todd TV debuted with under a million viewers. That was less than half of the viewers who tuned in before it to watch a rerun of the Ashton Kutcher vehicle “Dude, Where’s My Car.” Apparently, people would rather watch a certain pop star act stupid than vote to make a 30-something waiter look stupid.
