is Jessica “as dumb as she looks”?
Is Jessica Simpson just playing dumb to bump up the ratings of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica? On Letterman she “admitting to being a ditz but chalking it up to a brand of appeal she tried to sell as reminiscent of Lucille Ball,” and her dad says “she’s just ‘playing into’ her role as a stereotypical empty-headed blonde.” But MSNBC’s Linda Holmes doesn’t buy it, saying “the qualities that drive [Nick] crazy now are too integrated into her personality to be either manufactured or recently acquired.” But Holmes also argues that “the point is not so much whether Jessica is dumb as it is why her particular brand of dumb is so mesmerizing.”
