Nashville Star 5 auditions begin Aug. 31; the show will debut in January 2007

USA Network has renewed Nashville Star for a fifth season, and will start to search for contestants later this month. The show will visit 13 cities during a month and a half period starting Aug. 31.

According to the show’s web site, it will return in January next year, rather than its usual start date of mid-March. Typically, the series lasts eight episodes and thus begins and ends while American Idol keeps chugging along all spring. Perhaps they’re expanding the competition or the series this year, or perhaps they’re just starting earlier.

Auditions will take place in the following cities; check the show’s site for details and updated information:

  • Aug. 31: Atlanta and Kansas City
  • Sept. 6: Indianapolis
  • Sept. 7: Los Angeles
  • Sept. 14: Oklahoma City and Chicago
  • Sept. 21: Las Vegas and Tampa
  • Sept. 27: Albuquerque
  • Sept. 28: New York
  • Oct. 5: Charlotte and Dallas
