American Idol isn’t the only talent competition reality series with controversy. Nashville Star 3’s Tamika Tyler, who was booted from the series last week, says producers constructed a fake argument that led to her eviction. Tyler says “she suffered a fan backlash from a minute-long segment that preceded her performance on last week’s show, a segment that she says demonstrates producers created a controversy,” The Tennessean reports. Specifically, producers “showed a brief exchange about older vs. younger contestants, with Tyler saying, ‘It’s been a long road for us older ones…’” The paper reports that Tyler, 33, “said that exchange prompted more than 700 angry e-mails from fans that said, essentially, ‘How dare you call a meeting to chew out the young ones.’” Executive producer H. T. Owens says, “This is a reality show, not Face the Nation. That being said, we didn’t misrepresent conflict that arose between Tamika and other cast members.”
