Nashville Star “surprised” industry; judge says Idol has “pageant singers.”
Ryan Seacrest’s jealous little jab at Nashville Star on Tuesday’s episode of American Idol 2 apparently carried little weight with country music industry professionals. According to USA TODAY, “The show has changed an initially leery industry into a group of enthusiastic supporters.” One of those, Sony A&R executive and show judge Tracy Gershon, says he’s “pleasantly surprised” with the show’s quality. Another judge, Robert Oermann, slaps back at Ryan Seacrest and American Idol, saying that show’s contestants are “pageant singers” and “glorified karaoke people,” unlike the “writer/artists with individual visions” that perform on Nashville Star.
