MTV orders two dancing reality shows, renews Dance Crew

MTV is adding two more music competitions to its reality lineup, and has renewed Randy Jackson’s series America’s Best Dance Crew has been renewed for a second season, which will air this summer.

Rock the Cradle debuts April 3, and on the FremantleMedia series, “non-pro children of well-known performers will compete against one another,” Variety reports. The celebrities whose kids will participate include M.C. Hammer, Olivia Newton-John, Dee Snider, Eddie Money, and Kenny Loggins.

The other show, tentatively called the Celebrity Music Mentor Project, “will gather eight of mentors. Each of these will choose an amateur performer or group to work with, some of them selected from videos posted online. Over the course of the eight, hour-long episodes, the performers will face off, with an elimination each week until a winner emerges,” Variety reports. The show will debut in the fall.

MTV’s Brian Graden said these shows’ “goal is to get our viewers to participate in the world of music.”
