ArchivesTonight, MTV debuts Life of Ryan at 10:30 p.m. ET. It’s a new docudrama series that follows 17-year-old skateboarder Ryan Sheckler, who MTV says “is the youngest person to ever turn professional in the world of skateboarding” but is “just looking for the right girl and wants to spend time with his buddies,” who apparently aren’t as completely out of touch as MTV’s copywriter who used the word “buddies” to describe Ryan’s friends.
Ryan insists that the show follows his real life. “I think everyone is just going to be surprised as a whole to what goes on in my life and how many problems are going on and how much fun is going on. Nothing is staged and it is all there,” he told the Boston Herald.
And he says that his motivation for doing the show isn’t entirely selfish. “A lot of the main reason I’m doing the show is to show kids you can deal with divorce and you can deal with everything that’s going wrong in your life. I have a very wonderful and blessed life, but there are a couple of things that are a bit shady going on and I hope kids can relate to me,” he told the New York Daily News.
He adds that he’s bonded with the show’s crew. “I like them there,” he said. “I’ve developed a relationship with all the camera people and everyone, so it’s easy — they’re my family now.”
