Among The Miss America Pageant’s new changes for 2001, which include renaming the swimsuit competition the “lifestyle and fitness” competition, the contestants eliminated in the early rounds will be able to vote against one of the finalists. The president of the organization says that unlike other crappy shows like Survivor (“People are out there inventing things like ‘Survivor’ and portraying it as reality TV”), Miss America has always “been providing viewers with high-stakes reality television,” Variety reports. Yeah, right. The drama is so high-stakes they had to adopt part of another show to maintain interest.
