Making the Band 4 returns tonight with groups competing to complete their record
MTV brings back Making the Band 4 tonight at 10 p.m. ET for a second season, but with a twist, joining its cast with the cast from last season in a competition to see who can produce their album first.
Although some journalists are confused, this is the second season of Making the Band 4. The 826 Boys, the all-male group formed during the fourth round’s first season, and soloist Donnie, will be joined by Making the Band 3 group Danity Kane, and all three acts will compete “to see who will be the first to complete their album,” according to MTV’s impossibly long, poorly written description.
Diddy says that there will be drama from both the competition and sexual tension. “Because they’re on the same label, I didn’t expect that there would be some romance involved. But there are definitely some hookups. That’s not something I want, because I don’t know how long it will last and I know that they have to be on tour together,” he told the New York Daily News.
The competition isn’t just about completing of the album, but about individual songs, Diddy says. “They’re fighting to be the priority. There are some songs that can go with the guys or the girls, and whoever has the momentum gets the song.”
He also says that there may or may not be a fifth round and search for a brand-new group, and says they went with a second season of MTB4 because “I felt like there was so much more TV following this band that we had. And I thought what if we threw Danity Kane in the mix and made it almost like a supershow?” he said. “I’m just playing it by ear and focusing on these groups right here. If I have a vision for something new, I’ll do it. If not, I don’t want to keep doing this just to do it.”
