Laguna Beach has strong debut, but MTV exec questions if he’d “repeat” the formula.
MTV’s genre-changing Laguna Beach debuted two weeks ago with strong numbers: 2.4 million viewers watched, which The Futon Critic reports made it the most-watched show with “persons 12-34 among all cable networks.” However, MTV exec Tony DiSanto tells the New York Post, “I don’t know if I would take this sort of visual format and apply it to something else—I hate to repeat myself.” Yes, MTV copying itself would be earth-shattering. He does suggest, however, that the series might continue past the original 11 episodes: “But if ‘Laguna Beach’ continues, it would be good to continue with the team we have in place.” Episode three airs tomorrow night at 10:30 p.m. ET.
+ also: Laguan Beach is “among the emptiest, most pointless television shows ever conceived.”
+ and: is the real Orange County anything like it looks on TV?
