Kathy Griffin will be the first Emmy winner to host the Schmemmys/Creative Arts Emmys

Two-time Emmy winner Kathy Griffin will host the Creative Arts Emmys, becoming the first Emmy-winner to do so.

That’s the ceremony that takes place a week before the big television event and gives out technical and other awards—Kathy calls it “The Schmemmys” for its second-rate status—and the Sept. 12 ceremony will be taped and air as a two-hour E! special. (The prime-time Emmys air Sept. 20 with host Neil Patrick Harris.)

Telecast producer Spike Jones, Jr., said in an Academy press release, “We’re thrilled as Kathy’s the first Emmy winner to host the Creative Arts show. She stole the show the last two years, so now, we’re giving her the opportunity to officially hijack it. We’re all very, very excited. And just a little bit scared.”

Since My Life on the D-List typically tapes in the spring, it’s unlikely footage of the ceremony or her prep for it will be included in the series, if it returns to Bravo (which it probably will).
