Jon and Kate have lost 62 percent of their viewers since August
Jon and Kate Gosselin’s post-separation “journey,” which TLC has been following since early August, hasn’t been interesting enough to keep viewers around, so they’re fleeing, like Kate would flee to a convention of corporate sponsors, or Jon to a gathering of college cheerleaders.
When the show returned six weeks after a record number of people who watched the divorce episode, some drop would be expected, considering how much attention that got, but the recent drop may be a surprise.
They “[have] lost 62 percent of its audience — from 4.2 million viewers for the half hour show on that night, to the 1.7 million [last] Monday,” The Baltimore Sun’s David Zurawik reports. He notes that “the skid has been steady: from 4.2 million on Aug. 3, to 3.4 million on Aug. 10, to a 3 million on Aug. 17, to the 1.714 million Monday,” although “it does appear that the show might finally be hitting bottom” because “the drop to 1.714 [last] week, is the smallest of the season.”
