The finale of Joe Millionaire was watched by more than 40 million people, the highest rated entertainment program in FOX’s 17 years on TV and the highest rated entertainment TV show of this season (only the Super Bowl beat it). Of course, that meant the show easily crushed its competition. Additionally, “the figures for viewers in the 18-to-49 age range, its target group, were even more spectacular [22.7 million] than the overall totals,” the New York Times reports. The 22.7 million viewers in that range were “the best numbers for any entertainment show since the opening of the CBS reality series Survivor 2 in January 2001.”
