Record-breaking debut for Jersey Shore’s fourth season: 8.8 million viewers

Jersey Shore’s popularity remains stronger than ever, as last night’s debut of the MTV reality series’ fourth season broke records, drawing 8.8 million viewers.

MTV said that is “MTV’s third most watched series telecast of all time” and “the biggest audience ever for an MTV season premiere” and “a 4% increase over the” season three premiere. A big chunk of that audience was, surprise, young: 6.5 million viewers among those ages 12 to 34, identical to last season’s first episode.
