Jersey Shore spin-offs and a fourth season are coming as it ends its popular second season
Jersey Shore ends its second season tonight, less than a year after debuting to controversy and going on to massive ratings. And now there’s the possibility of spin-offs starring Paul “Pauly D” Del Vecchio and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, never mind a fourth season. (The third season has already been filmed.)
This season has been an exceptional success for the MTV series. As Media Life notes, it was the top “program on cable among adults 18-49 during third quarter, according to Nielsen, averaging 4.5 million, including an extra 1.5 million who watched the show via DVR,” and “MTV regularly beats the broadcast networks in the 10 p.m. Thursday slot.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer and series creator SallyAnn Salsano hints about the possibility of spin-offs starring Pauly D and Snooki (“We shoot with the kids all the time. We’re always constantly shooting with them in their lives. I don’t know if there is anything official.”) and discusses the show’s success (“There is no better feeling than when you get the chance to make a show that you believe in, that is a gamble, and then have it pay off”).
She also explains how the show is different now that the cast is famous. Producers, Salsano said, “treat them like we did Season One,” but added, “What’s hard is the fans and paparazzi. That’s part of my job, to not interfere with the story. I can go in and clear a restaurant and stage it with people that aren’t going to bother them, but then that’s not reality. It just makes it a lot harder for us to keep somebody from coming up to them every 20 seconds, like, ‘Hey, can I take a picture?’”
That’s only likely to get worse for a fourth season, which is currently being discussed, according to Pauly D, who told the AP, “There’s been talk about doing another season. If it happens, I’d love to do it.”
