Invasion Iowa wrapped early because of suspicions; Shatner only knew fake names.
How did producers of Spike TV’s upcoming Invasion Iowa manage to fool an entire town for 10 days, convincing them that William Shatner was filming a real movie there? Besides lying, they issued fake press releases and held a fake press conference once the media got word, only told William Shatner the names of the characters that LA-based actors were playing, and told townspeople “that Priceline.com, for which Shatner is a paid spokesman, was making a documentary of the filming for a DVD,” thus requiring them to wear mics, according to the Press-Citizen. The paper also reports in a different story that production “ended a day early because of residents’ suspicions.” Some of those residents tell the paper they feel betrayed, while others are thrilled about the attention they’ll be getting. Ah, even Iowa has its media whores.
