ArchivesAfter May, no more reality shows will air on the channels broadcast by Italy’s RAI. That move is “is part of RAI’s wider effort to improve the quality of its programming,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. RAI is state-owned.
The announcement by the company’s president Cladio Petruccioli “anger[ed] some RAI directors who said he should have waited until RAI’s upcoming schedule was released next week.”
Despite this, Italians will not be without reality TV. RAI’s competitor Mediaset has “three private networks [that] serve a steady diet of reality shows, and the company has been linked in recent weeks to negotiations to acquire control of Dutch producer Endemol, creator of the highly successful ‘Big Brother’ television franchise,” the paper says.
