Amazing Race Asia debuts to strong ratings, is viewable online

A year ago, the format of The Amazing Race was sold internationally, and last week, the first such version debuted on AXN. (A central European version has been cast and will air soon.)

The show looks and feels nearly exactly like the US version, although it offers a prize of just US$100,000, and a host. Who likes. To pause. In the middle. Of his sentences. (And who happens to be a former Fear Factor contestant.) Its contestants are from Asia, although they aren’t all Asian.

Variety reports that the premiere “dashed to the top of ratings across the region … and was the No. 1 show in its timeslot in Singapore and Malaysia and No. 2 in the Philippines.”
