stereotype-dependent Russian show featuring house-building couples is a hit.
A Russian show is following a dozen couples “as they build a £150,000 five-bedroom country house, or dacha, in the wooded Moscow suburbs for the series Dom (House),” the BBC reports. And the show “is proving a big hit with the nation’s TV viewers.” The house, being constructed north of Moscow, will become the property of the last couple remaining; one couple is voted off each week by viewers. The Moscow Times detailed story about the show says it “is strictly set to the oldest stereotypes. The men get to build the house, while the women and the children get to cook and provide for the workers in small huts 10 meters away from the construction site.”
