Australia-born Popstars now facing competition from its imitators.
Two years ago, “Australia exported Popstars to the world.” Now “two [Australian] networks are bidding for a pale imitation,” The Sydney Morning Herald reports. It looks at the shows evolution and imitation beyond Australia’s shores, and also examines other copycat shows and how disputes over similarities are resolved. Because of the similarities, the UK’s Pop Idol isn’t allowed to use the word “Pop” in its title outside of Britain, and now there’s a similar conflict between Survivor and I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.
