Vietnam’s first Idol show, known as Sao Mai - Diem Hen, “has already unsettled viewers and the authorities,” the BBC News reports. For one, the Simon Cowell-like “judge has been berated for making harsh comments, and the programme’s makers, National Television, have been rebuked by the Ministry of Culture for selecting judges without ‘sufficient political or professional merits.’” Viewers wrote in to complain about the series. The first episode aired last Saturday on VTV, and follows a similar format to the UK and US versions of the show. Nine more episodes will air over the coming weeks.
