The man referred to as a hobbit and the potential winner of a “Middle Earth Idol” is also the World Idol, having won “a crushing victory in the competition,” according to Norway’s Aftenposten. Kurt Nilsen told the paper, “it seems that those who voted for me ignored the jokes about my looks. People are beginning to understand that it isn’t just glamour that sells any more, but the opposite. People listen to the music, the song, and that was lucky for me.” Before the competition began, American Idol’s Kelly Clarkson was the reported favorite, and she placed second, while Pop Idol winner Will Young placed fifth.
