One of the final three contestants on Australian Idol unexpectedly quit. Cosima De Vito read a statement before the host could announce whether she or Guy Sebastian would move on to the final two. She said, “Unfortunately I have a temporary condition that’s affecting my voice. It’s forced me to make the decision to leave the competition.” The series has been the subject of “endless” conspiracy theories, with people online speculating that “the show was a sham, with the results rigged entirely to the detriment of each conspiracy theorist’s favourite singer,” The Sydney Morning Herald reports. None of those theories predicted this, the paper says, although it says she only “appeared to withdraw of her own accord,” which is bound to fuel even more gossip.
