Malawi parliament bans Big Brother Africa because of its “horrible pictures.”
Big Brother Africa has been banned from the nation of Malawi after a vote of parliament. The media committee chair said that “[p]eople are subjected to horrible pictures which are corrupting the morals of our children,” according to Malawi’s The Nation. The country’s censorship board opposes opposes the move; its leader says that “if you compare what’s shown in Big Brother and what’s in some movies, the material is the same and we should therefore ban them all and only have U-rated films for everyone.” Television Malawi, a state-run TV station operating since 1999, will no longer show the program; Malawi’s representative on the show was voted out four weeks ago.
+ plus: Namibians still watching Big Brother Africa even though its president wants the show off the air.
