John de Mol’s Talpa Media buys Bunim-Murray for $50-70 million

The man known for jump-starting reality television internationally, Endemol founder Jon de Mol, has bought the company that established reality TV in the United States, Bunim-Murray Productions. De Mol’s new venture, Talpa Media, bought the company for an estimated “$50 million-$70 million — considered a great price for a company that owns very few of its formats,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trade paper says Talpa “plans this year to open production subsidiaries in six countries: the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the U.K.”
