Ghen Maynard leaves CBS; developed Survivor, Amazing Race, and Big Brother

Ghen Maynard, the man responsible for bringing Survivor and other reality series to CBS, is leaving his job at the network. He’s served as the executive vice president for alternative programming and entertainment content for new media since 2006, when he returned to CBS after working at NBC for two years.

His “departure ends weeks of rumors that [CBS] might be making a change with its alternative/unscripted team. Rumors of Maynard’s impending exit grew even louder last week,” Variety reports. He’s not leaving entirely, though, as CBS “is converting his executive contract into a production and development deal” and he “will hold a first-look pact at CBS effective immediately.”

Previously, Maynard worked as the network’s vice president for alternative programming, and CBS said in 2006 that he “was responsible for bringing SURVIVOR, CBS’s hit adventure-reality series, currently in its 12th edition, to the Network, working closely with executive producer Mark Burnett in overseeing the show’s format and creative development.”

Other shows he developed and brought to the network included The Amazing Race and Big Brother, as well as America’s Next Top Model for UPN.
