Reality TV shows will still compete for Emmy awards in one of two categories, but those categories have been renamed: Nonfiction program (alternative/unscripted), formerly known as nonfiction program (special class) will be for shows without game elements, while Reality/competition programs, formerly nonfiction programming (special class), will include those shows with game or prize elements. Additionally, traditional nonfiction shows such as documentaries have their own categories: nonfiction series (traditional) and nonfiction special (traditional). Finally, two new categories have been added for writers and directors of nonfiction programs.
