NBC may bring back I’m a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here

NBC might revive I’m a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here, the long-running UK series that aired one lame season on ABC back in 2003. The show was essentially like a real-time, celebrity edition of Survivor, except without anything that makes Survivor entertaining or interesting.

NBC “is in negotiations with Granada America for another stateside reincarnation of the” series, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that the series “remained one of the most popular reality shows in the U.K.” and since it first aired in the U.S., “celebrity-stocked unscripted fare such as ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ has gained widespread acceptance in the U.S.”

The 12 episodes could air this summer during the week over two and a half weeks. The earlier version aired live over 15 days on ABC, and although it was pretty bad—the D-list celebrities even got a tarp hung over their beds to protect them from rain11.1 million people did watch its March 2003 finale, when Cris Judd won.

Many American celebrities have appeared on the UK’s version, including Martina Navratilova and George Takei in the eighth season, while during the seventh season, Janice Dickinson threatened to eat another contestant’s breasts.
