UK psych society looking at reality TV cast members’ “mental damage.”
The same day that Danniella Westbrook walked out of the second UK I’m a Celebrity—Get Me Out of Here, it was revealed the British Psychological Society is looking into the effects of reality TV. The organization “has set up a working party to investigate the mental damage caused to [reality TV show] participants,” the Independent reports. It will develop guidelines for participation in reality TV shows, although the article doesn’t give further details. It does discuss the possible effects on both amateur and celebrity participants. Danniella left the show citing, in part, her lack of an AA support group; she was begging the audience to let her leave, but they sent another celebrity home instead.
