PBS announces Texas Ranch House cast, promotes show with MooTube

PBS’ next historical reality series debuts next Monday at 8, airing two hour episodes for four nights. The show’s site now includes profiles of the 15 participants, who are divided by their living quarters: the bunkhouse and the ranch house. Although the show’s six cowboys make a Brokeback Mountain comparisons inevitable, none of the cast members appear to be gay.

But PBS is looking to increase ratings by embracing something even hipper than cowboy-on-cowboy action: a viral web site.

To promote Texas Ranch House, PBS last week launched MooTube. The site that offers four streaming feeds from cameras attached to cows; there’s also a Pasture Blog and a Cow of the Day feature. Despite the similarities in their names, it’s nothing like YouTube; there are, alas, no shirtless teenage bulls lip syncing to Kelly Clarkson.
