producer says that Regency House Party might be the last House show filmed.
PBS will air Regency House Party in November in the States, but the series has already aired in the UK, and debuts this Sunday in Australia. The series’ producer, Caroline Ross Pirie, tells The Sydney Morning Herald that this installment might be the last in the series, which includes Manor House/Edwardian Country House, The 1900 House, and Colonial House. She says, “I’m not sure that there’s enough money in TV to sustain the genre any more.” The paper also reports on this latest installment, in which “the women regressed but … the men actually matured, partly because of the social responsibilities that went with being a gentleman, and partly because of the changed rules in the dating game.” Ross Pierie says that for the women, “Just being put in that environment where there’s nothing to do all day, it diminishes you. You become less of a person, less interesting. You become a child.” The men, however, had “to be so much more skilled and deft in [their] approach.”
